Hi Everyone!
Dude! Where's my tribe?
The silence after last week's issue was deafening! Now, I KNOW you have a lot to say about Google's Sidewiki - both individually and collectively.
Did I scare you? It's one thing to rant and rave, and quite another thing to actually DO something, isn't it?
Well, if you want to stand up to them with me, Will Bontrager has 2 levels of Sidewiki protection - PLUS a script to alert you when a comment is made on your website. No charge ...

One iCop member did write to me:
------------
THANK YOU and Will for the new block! I will be updating our
current one a.s.a.p. I can always count on you to keep us in
the loop!
When you first reported it, I decided then and there I wasn't messing with it and started looking for a block. I've just flat had enough of jumping through hoops and wasting time on crap I did NOT ask for (site abuse and other announcements already have me at my wits end).
As for Google, they lost their right for me to give a damn (if they don't like the block), when they unleashed Sidewiki. And, if they do start penalizing sites that block it, so be it. As with everything else, there is nothing that can't be replaced, even Google.

It was that last line I loved best:
“... there is nothing that can't be replaced, even Google.”
Now, let's see, where did I leave Yahoo! when THEY got too big for THEIR britches? That would be just about the time Google came on the scene, wouldn't it? Just as Bing is coming in, now.
History always repeats itself. Each thinks they won’t repeat the mistakes of the one before. And, then ... they do. Different mistakes - same motivation. Greed.
Apology in Order
I need to apologize for the state of last week's issue. Unfortunately, when I get in a hurry, I tend to not bother with opening MS Word, so typos get by me.
Not that this is any excuse, but I was working on that issue right up to five minutes before I sent it. I even screwed up the link to the online version - even though most read the email version, anyway!
That's a good reason for ME not to allow myself to get too hacked off about things. Anger makes me careless.
On the same subject - sort of - I read an article last week
about email publishers who don't bother to check for words that
trigger the filters. It reminded me, I haven't admonished my
own subscribers recently to keep my email address white-listed.
I give you a link for that several times when you first register. After that, you're on your own. I refuse to deal with the damn word checkers for the filters.
I write what I please, and I'm NOT going to use synonyms for what I want to say. This is a BUSINESS newsletter! Nor, am I going to waste my time TRYING to make my email acceptable to ISPs that choose to ignore the CAN-SPAM ACT and filter whatever they want.
That's just what you get when you subscribe to this newsletter. Of course, once Chuck gets our new blog active, that will be a moot point.
However, you should white-list even for a short announcement email with NO marketing terms in it. All you really have to do is keep my address in your address book. How easy is that?
10th Anniversary
November 1st will be the 10th anniversary of this organization. The name was changed 10 months later.
I usually set up a big sale for these anniversaries - which is also my own birthday. But, I've been too busy to get anything done this year. Looks like I'd have more respect for 10 L O N G years, doesn't it?
Someone wrote and asked me if I plan to put The MASTER COURSE on sale - especially since I have NOT had it on sale for quite some time. Actually, I have no plans to do that for the anniversary.
I'm going to save that sale for New Years. I always feel like folks are more likely to actually read - and even USE - the course at the beginning of a new year. That's the time people are the most serious about making changes.
But, if you would like to give it to someone for Christmas, contact me privately. jlscott at i-cop.org
We're short on news, this week, as I'm trying to wrap things up
so we can go back to where we left off when Sidewiki intruded
upon our lives. Next week, we'll begin discussing building
lists and what to do with them once you have one.
Have a fabulous week and ... keep on keepin' on!
P.S. Do YOU have the iCop seal on ALL your web sites? Scammers abound in a depressed economy. You will need the credibility of your iCop membership NOW, more than ever!
Use the iCop Seal on Every Site You Own at NO Extra Cost!
I really want to hear from you! Tell me what you think!
