Hi Everyone!
Thanks so much to those who enjoyed my story-telling last week and wrote to tell me so. That's my favorite way to write, but I rarely get the chance.
People tell me all the time they love hearing about my adventures with ET (for those ET hasn't grown up with, he's my 6-year-old pet cockatiel) and the wildlife. Of course, another guy once wrote, “We don't CARE about your damn pets!” And five subscribers dropped the Journal last week.
Same guy also told me to, “Get a life.” HA! I am SO busy online - with SO many folks to deal with - and SO much chatter - I'd go completely nuts without the peace and fascination I have with nature.
No one, who knows me well, believes I would EVER decide to settle in a little town in Louisiana. But, hey - Louisiana has its own, unique, off-beat charm - and it grows on ya!
We may not realize how much time we spend upholding our “images” online. I long ago decided not to bring my children into my publications any more than necessary. The only thing I allow folks to know about my personal life is about my non-human families.
But, I digress - my point is that it's so easy for us to be one-dimensional to those we work with online. We never really know those we work with like we would down on Main Street.
Unfortunately, I think we miss the fun part. So, for the past few weeks, you've gotten to see another part of me.
THINK ABOUT IT: (We'll discuss this soon.) Staying in business
and doing well in a trashed economy is all about intentions and
NOT being a victim to an economy gone wrong.
SEO Ranking Factors for 2009
I think I've mentioned before how sick and tired I used to get trying to keep up with Google's constant changes for high standings in the search engine - like they are the High Priests of Everything.
It seems like such a waste of time to, first, figure it out, then, make the demanded changes - only to have them change it all again in a few months.
Maybe it's worth it. I don't know. But, I DO know I finally quit, and simply did what made sense to me.
So, I was both amazed and gratified to read the following article. Seems I probably made the right decision.
Below is a link to the very latest Search Engine Optimization information. You'll be surprised.
For instance, did you know that “keyword density” is pretty much a joke? You'll be amazed, too ... at what doesn't even matter!
A Final Word on Canned Meat
Of course, there'll never be a final word on the “S” word. But, this is important, and I'd kind of forgotten about it for the past five years. I received this email (edited for space):
------------
Hi jl,
I deleted an old (email) address creating a new one. It suddenly reduced my spam by a decent amount, which made me very happy. Then, I thought, wait a minute...
I have been with RoadRunner Broadband for about a decade and NEVER used that email address. Why don't I delete that one as well?
I did.
Guess what? I now have practically ZERO (0!) spam in my inboxes.
Seems to me that some ISP's sell our email addresses after all, and we are PAYING them to do so!
I've received spam for male crown jewels enhancements and a variety of other unsavory stuff, as well. So, they don't seem to discriminate as to whom they sell it to.
What I want to know is... Where is the fine print we sign, when we get their services, saying we AGREE to that?
I would like to ask others to dump their ISP email addresses as well to see what happens. How many would have the same, or almost the same, results?
Using web based email addresses, at least, has the advantage that we don't get the crap on our computers, since it stays on their server.
What do you think, jl? Should we give this a try?
Best Regards,
monique jones

------------
How many would get the same results? A HUGE number! Heck yes -
give it a try!
When I first moved to Louisiana, from Orlando, I had Cox Cable Company. Within 36 hours after I set up my email account, I was receiving all KINDS of spam at that address!
Since I never USE my ISP email address for anything but to receive email from the ISP, itself, I KNEW that address hadn't been harvested!
I called Cox and asked WTH?
I was told, of course, THEY didn't sell or give away my address! In a pig's wazoo, they didn't. They actually had the temerity to tell me it must have been harvested from their server!
“Do you mean that SECURE page where I signed up?”
No answer.
My current ISP - Suddenlink - doesn't do this. But, I'd be
willing to bet most of the big ones DO. Have you any idea the
amount of money they can make selling their customer's email
addresses to spammers?
Then, of course, they don't hesitate to BLOCK a legitimate newsletter!
If the ISP isn't selling the addresses, someone who works there is doing it. Either way - the ISP is responsible!
My advice is to absolutely get rid of any ISP email address that receives canned meat! You're paying them enough without giving them the added income from selling your private information!
Have a fabulous week and ... keep on keepin' on!

"Alabama Redneck"
A Redneck from Pohickey, Alabama walked into a bank in New York
City and asked for the loan officer. He told the loan officer
that he was going to Paris on an international redneck festival
for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000 and that he was not a
depositor of the bank.
The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Redneck handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Redneck produced the title and everything checked out. The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest.
Later, the bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Redneck from the south for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's private underground garage and parked it.
Two weeks later, the Redneck returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The loan officer said, "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out on Dunn & Bradstreet and found that you are a highly sophisticated investor and multimillionaire with real estate and financial interests all over the world. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"
The good 'ol Alabama boy replied, "Where else in New York City
can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to
be there when I return?"
