Hi Everyone!

I'm having a terrible time getting this issue written. What with the storms, crashing cable and electricity flashing on and off for several days, I'm literally down to the wire. So, this may be a short issue.

I didn't even have time to try out a new free service I hope to be able to recommend to you. But, I WILL get that done for next week's issue.

ET (my pet cockatiel) will be six-years-old tomorrow. Somehow, I still think he's a baby. He acts like about a two-year-old child. That's what happens when they are hand-fed as chicks and hand-raised without any other birds around.

They say cockatiels live to be 20 to 25 years old. How would you like to have a two-year-old in the house for 20 to 25 years? And, I admit - ET rules!

Product Warning

I'd like to pass along a warning about a product used by one of our members, so the same thing doesn't happen to you. Here's his email:

I would like to pass on some info that may help some members.

I was trying out a couple different e-book compilers and, when I was working with one of them, a popup read "Would you like to make ____ your default for PDF documents?”

I was going to click no and happened to look away from the computer for a second and ended up pushing the yes button.

I thought Oh, Oh, and I was right. I didn't like the compiler so didn't follow up after the free trial and all my "used to be PDF" documents were useless because their software had converted all of them to their version.

I'm not sure if their software did something else because now I can only open PDFs by going to IE off a list and asking IE to open it for me. It works but it's a pain in the ___!

I suspect, because Victor told the software to become the default for PDF docs, this made it impossible to open ANY PDF after he stopped using the software.

He finally deleted Adobe 8 and downloaded Adobe 9 (which has version 9), again. So, all is well.

The compiler is “Ebook Starter.” Although that does seem to be a rather drastic reaction to making it the default, we have to remember he DID click the button, albeit, accidentally.

I believe a well-planned piece of software, put out for trials, should have provided a way to reverse any settings. IMHO, of course.

The moral is ... NEVER make any piece of software your default until you're absolutely positive you like it and are going to keep it. And, be VERY careful what you click when working with any new piece of software!

Help for New (and "Old") Online Businesses

I was ruminating, last week, about all the new folks starting businesses online - and, what we might do to help them. Many of these people will be trying to start a business on a shoestring.

It is never possible to launch a business without paying anything. Some investment has to be made. Although you may learn everything without cost, it will literally take years.

One of our members reminded me that a number of iCop members got together toward solving that problem for business owners. They each contributed to write over 200 pages of training of online skills for online business owners.

These aren't the flash-in-the-pan whiz-kids. They are stable, savvy, successful online business owners. And, they KNOW what they're talking about.

Ten years ago, it took me nine full months to get online from the time I started learning. How I wish I'd had access to a book like this!

I AM sorry to cut us short this week, although there's a really good “joke” down below.
