Hi Everyone!
I'm going to try to wrap up the topic of making it successfully through the recession, today. Yep - we might as well start calling it what it is: recession. I don't think anyone's left arguing with that, now.
I saw some interesting articles regarding some of the things
I've been suggesting to you. The first was about Denny's
restaurant giving away their “Grand Slam” breakfast for eight
hours last Tuesday - at every location in the USA, Canada and
Puerto Rico!
Now, who will folks think of when they are deciding where to go eat? Believe me when I say, Denny's will make their money back many times over in good will for that action. And, I'm sure they got millions of dollars worth of free advertising!
Giving not only helps the folks you're giving to - it helps YOU as a business owner. Always.
I also saw an article on “Work at Home” Scams. I mentioned
we'll be seeing more and more of these scams.
Read this before you think about any work-at-home program. Think many times if you're asked to buy in to it.
I mentioned I had one more, rather large, piece of advice for
you. The following is, of course, a personal decision for each
of you.
With all the foreclosures, it goes without saying this is a perfect time to pick up real estate. Now is also the time to invest in the stock market.
Everyone's heard, “Buy low, sell high.” Well, now's the time to buy low! Of course, we'll need to be careful, but that's always the case.
One thing that isn't going to change is the need for earth products. In fact, the demand will only increase. ANYTHIING that will save energy will become an in-demand product.
These are the things to invest in, now.
Before I go any further, let me assure you that, yes, I'm what
is known as a “liberal,” although I prefer to think of myself as
progressive. This has NOT ONE THING to do with politics.
I simply think a whole lot of things are more important than me and how much money I make. Like this planet we live on - and all living things.
Saying I'm a liberal does NOT mean I'm going to take up residence in an Oak tree to keep someone from cutting it down, so just relax.
And, by the way, caring about our Earth isn't anything new.
My grandfather took care with what he was doing as he farmed. He was humane to his animals, he didn't use nasty pesticides, if he cut down a tree, he planted another one. He rested fields between plantings. He took care of his land, rather than destroying it.
It annoys me that people seem to think caring for our planetary home is some new cult. It's simply common sense - and always has been. The American Indians did the same thing.
A good friend of mine recently asked, “Why aren't more people openly promoting and practicing saving the Earth?”
My answer would be: for many generations, it wasn't a question. Folks just did it. In the past 40 years, or so, it became more important to make LOADS of money - by any means - regardless of what it did to our planet and anything on it.
Land is ravished, animals are tortured, children are used to test drugs without their knowledge in the social services system, and that's in addition to what's been done to the planet itself in the holy name of greed.
Those who objected have been ridiculed, treated as if they're half-wits and dubbed “Liberals.” Liberal became a dirty word.
A “conservative” wouldn't have written this series of articles and published them for anyone who might need or make use of them. A conservative would have written a book and sold it.
Luckily for me, I won't have a lot to learn about how to get along in a world with no money - a world where people MUST consider, and work with, others. It's gonna be tough for those who are used to considering nothing but their wallets.
But, I digress.
Who knows, maybe the Great Spirit of the Universe allowed all
this to happen so we brilliant humans would be forced to stop,
clean up our mess and, only then, move forward again.
Without money, we'll be FORCED to learn conservation. All we have LEFT to invest in is what two years ago was called insane: earth products, solar panels, wind mills, alternate energy, the list goes on and on.
The good friend I mentioned above is certainly doing HIS part
and he didn't wait until things became critical:

We MUST all get OUT of the rage we've been feeling for so long.
We need to stop worrying about labels: republicans, democrats,
conservatives, liberals, Americans, French, white, black, Christians, Jews, etc. We
need to start taking personal responsibility, and to hell with what our
“group” says.
We have to let all that go! We MUST stop pointing fingers and start working together, or we won't come out of this, at all. It went on too long - we're in too deep.
We need to make a point of calming down, and using our sense of humor. All the stress contributes nothing - except aging and death.
I guess that's all I have to say about that. You can find this entire series of articles on how to get through the global recession here: Ezine Archive
It began in the December 15, 2008 issue.

"Elderly Road Trip"
While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant, and resumed their trip.
When leaving, the elderly woman unknowingly left her glasses on the table and she didn't miss them until they had been driving about forty minutes.
By then, to add to the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to turn around in order to return to the restaurant to retrieve her glasses.
All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy old man. He fussed and complained and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive.
The more he chided her, the more agitated he became. He just wouldn't let up one minute.
To her relief, they finally arrived at the restaurant. As the
woman got out of the car and hurried inside to retrieve her
glasses, the old geezer yelled to her, "While you're in there,
you might as well get my hat and the credit card."
